Salve Regina! Viva Aranzazu, You will be soon coronated by the people of San Mateo! Viva Aranzazu
“I have good news for you.” “THE HOLY FATHER IN ROME HAS APPROVED THE CANONICAL CORONATION OF THE VIRGIN OF SAN MATEO, OUR LADY OF ARANZAZU…” [sic]
Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Lawrence Paz quoted Antipolo Bishop Most Rev. Gabriel V. Reyes’ message last July 4.
Fr. Larry Paz, right after receiving the bishop’s phone call, rushed back to the parish just in time to personally deliver the news to the evening mass goers. He also posted it on Facebook to further spread the good news especially to the people of San Mateo, Rizal.
It is remembered that the Our Lady of Aranzazu was episcopally crowned on the 9th of November 2013 and since then the devotion grew not only in the town but also in different towns and cities. This proclamation adds to the awaited tercentennial celebration of Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu as the Patroness of San Mateo, Rizal.
As explained in many Catholic encyclopedias, A Canonical Coronation is an act of the Pope, duly expressed in an Apostolic Letter called a Papal Bull wherein his holiness recognizes the Marian Image under a specific title being venerated in a certain locality.
The venerated image should be historically old, acclaimed, and in times of need serves as a beacon of faith and hope among the people. Coronation is one form of reverence frequently shown to images of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Canonical Coronation also manifests recognition of the fervent devotion of the faithful of a locality to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Fr. Larry will seat with Fr. Gabby this coming Friday to talk further about the details of the said event.
