It is written on our liturgical calendar that we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary today, 24th of June.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary can be likened to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The titles are a form of devotion to the former (being Mary) and the latter (being Jesus). It also refers to the interior life of the Blessed virgin Mary, her sorrows and joys, her virtues and hidden perfections and above all her love for God the Father.

Research would say that originally the feast was celebrated on the 22nd of August, concurring with the Assumption’s eighth day. However in the year 1969, the feast was moved to the third Saturday after Pentecost. This was done so by the current head of the church that time, Pope Paul VI.

Let us all devote a prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary on this occasion. (Kristine Tuting)
