“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.”-Colossians 3:23-24
Existing in this kind of world is not as simple and picture-perfect as you see it in those fictional fairytales you once read as a child, well reality bites and you never get anything you want in just a glimpse of an eye or in just a wave of the wand of a so called “fairy god mother”. There will always be those circumstances wherein accomplishing your goals and receiving your desires will always have complexities and trials along the way. This kind of hardships may try to hidden you from your visions but the true lesson it entails is to never stop from achieving.
Back before when I was still in grade 9, I was a member of this school organization related to journalism. I am with other batch mates but they were a year longer members than I am, but to me this doesn’t truly indicate that I can’t be as deserving and skilled in writing like them. Surprisingly, I was appointed as the associate editor of the organization right away even if I may be a little inexperienced when it comes to this field of writing. My works had a lot of criticisms and often ignored but it never pulled me down in fact I made it as an inspiration and looked at it as a constructive one.
Towards the end of the school year we joined a competition related to writing, each one of us where assigned to different fields like feature writing, news writing and editorial writing. I was afraid to disappoint the group for being inexperienced despite being appointed of the second highest position so I wasn’t volunteering for anything but life is full of surprises; copy-reading in English was assigned to me which was the hardest! I have no other choice but to accept this for no members are left to take the task. I honestly did not have any ideas about the assignment, my other batch mates bragged their copy-reading experiences to me but never volunteered to exchange designation, I only had the time to study it a day before the competition and my moderators obviously lost hope that I will even bring home a medal in my focused filled of writing. All of this may have been enough to bring me down but it didn’t, I studied the notes as hard as I can and prayed until the competition started since it was all left I could do.
The results came and I bagged a bronze medal, not bad for an inexperienced writer after all. It was very satisfying to make my school proud and prove my batch mates wrong that criticized and bragged along the way of this journey. Once you offer everything to Him, He will have greater plans that will never fail to surprise you.
Reflection: The only left to believe in you is yourself and God alone. No matter how many challenges and hatred to hinder you of your morally upright desires you must always learn to offer everything you do in God and He will bless you with His guidance.
Everyone’s journey is filled with imperfections, similar to the life of St. Paul the Apostle whose feast is celebrated today all over the world. His life was filled with criticisms and hatred of his persistence to preach the good news and convert people to Christianity but it never stopped his aspirations to be a noble apostle of Christ making him one of the most influential of the twelve. St. Paul the Apostle, Pray for us. (Mariele Aquino)
