The Coronated Images of the Virgin Mary: Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu de San San Mateo, Nuestra Señora de Desamparados de Marikina and Nuestra Senora de la Paz y Buen Viaje de Antipolo on the closing Diocese of Antipolo’s Pilgrim Season 2017. Atom Yango
Another historical event took place in the Diocese of Antipolo yesterday, July 4. The special day marked the closing of the pilgrimage season yet opened a new chapter for everyone who was present in the event. A mass was held at 4:30 in the afternoon, with devotees of the three Marian images—Our Lady of Aranzazu, Our Lady of the Abandoned and Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage—filling in the cathedral.
Bishop Francisco de Leon, DD. served as the main celebrant of the mass. During the homily, the bishop reminded the devotees that the Pontifical Coronation of the three Marian images is just a reflection of the queenship of Mary as the queen of heaven and earth because just like her son, Mary has glories and sacrifices. The mass also marked the celebration of the 90th Anniversary of the Canonical Coronation of our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, where the Coronation rights were re-enacted.
Since we’re talking about the Coronation, this said event was another day to remember for the Diocese of Antipolo and for all the pilgrims who witnessed the event. It was the first ever gathering of the Tres Coronadas, the three pontifically crowned Marian images under the Diocese of Antipolo.
Our Lady of Nuestra Senora de Aranzazu was crowned Last May 31 this year. Our Lady of the Abandoned was officially crowned on October 23, 2005 and Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage bestowed a crown on November 28, 1926.
After the mass, a procession was also held for the Tres Coronadas. Balloons, which beautifully formed into a rosary, were also flown in the air as the pilgrimage season closed. Thousands of faithfuls went home full of blessings and grace, as they rejoiced and gave reverence to the three pontifically crowned patronesses. (Camille Cabal)
