As the famous adage that is so powerful that generations of our brothers lived well: “Naparito ako upang maglingkod, at hindi upang paglingkuran.”
I had a dream before, a dream to become a knight, who wields his sword to protect the king and his castle; a knight who will roam the plains with his horse to ensure the safety of the king’s nation from the bandits. I’d always imagine that when I grew up, I will become a mighty knight. But God has his plans on me and he chose me to be his knight that will serve his covenant.
I was 11-year old boy back then when a group of young-man came to our classroom. They invited us to join their ministry which is the Ministry of Altar Servers. This ministry assists the priest every time he conducts a mass. I find them cool so I signed up on the registration sheet and joined them.
A week after the registration, we finally have an orientation about the organization. They introduced the policies, gave trivia and the schedules for our six months training that we will undergo. One thing that I will never forget was they also call themselves a knight that will serve the altar. I was so shocked back then. I’d never realized that I will be given a chance to become a knight even though I was intended to serve the altar.
After the six long months of training, I became an official member of the ministry. I can say that it was a wonderful experience that happened to me.
Up until now, the teachings that I’ve learned, the principles that was build and the passion to serve Him was still intact on my soul. Thanks be to God for choosing me to become his knight. I will never forget his kindness and love to his people.
If you’re a 10-year old catholic boy who is interested to be a knight like me, the Ministry of Altar Servers is inviting you to join on its 40th batch of Escuelas De Sacristan orientation on July 23, 2017, 1pm at NSDA Parish Hall. See you there! (Flint Grospe)
