Fr. Edwin during the launching of the monthly Parish lay formation.
“Ang Diyos ang pinag-ugatan natin, magbubuklod o magtataguyod satin, katuparan at wakas natin.” One of the most noteworthy quotes stated by Fr. Edwin Tirado in his homily as the speaker and mass presider for yesterday’s Common Lay Formation for Parishioners. All participants were fervently reflecting throughout the Eucharistic mass that started by 7:30 pm held at the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Nuestra Senora de Aranzazu.
The program spearheaded by Fr. Edwin tackled about Bishop Socrates Villegas’ homily focused on this year’s theme of the church, “Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities” which is also the year of the basic ecclesial community. He later on discussed that BEC is a small church founded through unity and grounded by faith in Christ, examples of these are the choir, lay ministers and other MSK groups in the parish. Fr. Edwin emphasized that we see Christ in each one of us and that we be duty-bound to adhere to the roots of BEC since we are made in God’s image and likeness thus it is our duty take it into inspiration in achieving the BEC’s mission. Its concept was originated from the holy trinity making it the base of its spirituality and duty.
Once a group is established through Christ and considers each other as brothers and sisters then it is only regarded as a basic ecclesial community. It is not only centered through the quantities of its adherents and not only obtainable for the members of the church but it is also exceptionally open for every person that is interested to join. The BEC’s mission and responsibility is to give service to their brothers in destitution without expecting anything in return and to always do everything in observance of what is morally good for the many. Before ending the homily, Fr. Edwin encouraged everyone to recruit youth members that are less in number and usually inactive to each of their MSK groups to draw them nearer to God and strengthen their faith without the course of being addicted to the latest technology and social media.
As the Eucharistic celebration ended, many are called and commissioned to invite and recruit others especially the young ones to join each of their basic ecclesial communities and to spread the good news of the Lord through their organizations. It is a mission entitled for the youth to share their skills and talents through evangelization and professing their faith and not make their youthfulness limit them from preaching and sharing His word. For it is stated, “Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.”-1 Timothy 4:12 (Mariele Aquino)
