Unfortunately, war is certain to happen in our society. Yet, the Church has provided teachings that guides especially the government who are responsible for the common good.
The Church gave permission for war, only Just War. It is one of the old doctrines of the Church that teaches while war impose harm and should be avoided as much as possible there are existing conditions that can justify it. First, there is no other option. Second, war is not for any self-gain. Last, peace is the core aim. Along with these measure, our government can have the option to engage in war when absolutely necessary.
However, Pope Francis strongly believed that faith and cruelty are never reconcilable. So, surprisingly a little conceptual theory constitutes a Just Peace. It begins with the idea of meditation, dialogue, and active nonviolence, for instance protests as an alternative solution for finding ways to promote and keep peace.
Indeed there is no easy solution to the issue of war and peace. Promoting peace should be at the very heart of our faith. We must seek every possible way to resolve conflicts peacefully before hand, then implement force as truly the last resort.
Today’s feast, we celebrate the Queenship of Mary, who is “queen in the service of God to humanity”. Therefore, may we entrust the renewal consecration of the human race to the mercy and grace of our Queen and Mother in a great hope which will rejoice in the triumph Christian Peace. (Michaela Acilo)
