The Epiphany takes its name from the Greek epiphania, which denotes the visit of a god to earth. The first idea of the feast is the manifestation of Christ as the Son of God.

Today we celebrate the Feast of Epiphany, this is when we remember both the visit of the wise men and the baptism of Jesus when he was about 30 and started teaching people about God. The feast of Epiphany is celebrated 12 days after Christmas, it means “revelation” because the two events mentioned are both important to the revelation of Jesus as who he was meant to be.

The Feast of Epiphany is widely celebrated in the world particularly the Catholics and Orthodox Christians. In line with the celebration, our parish, Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu , will distribute blessed chalk and salt with holy water after every mass today. It is better to bring your own clean bottle so you can get a holy water.

Using the chalk, a combination must be written in every door or opening of the house: 20+C+M+B+18. This is a reminder that the wise men visited Jesus. Most importantly, this is done to protect the house for the next whole year. The salt on the other hand will be scattered on the corners of the house to keep the bad spirits away. These acts must be done along with a prayer.
