History

The icon of Our Lady to receive the Canonical Coronation was painted by the country’s renowned painter Fernando Amorsolo. The devotion to Our Lady of Light originated in Palermo, Sicily after the vision of Our Lady on November 21, 1722.

The original icon of the Virgin was brought by the Jesuits in 1727 and enshrined in the old church of Cainta. On August 5, 1884, Our Lady became the patroness of the parish and was called as “Madre Santissima de Lumen” or “Virgen ng Caliuanagan” according to the letter of Don Mariano de San Juan to the Archbishop of Manila, Fray Pedro Payo, OP. The feast day is celebrated every December 1.

The parishioners and devotees of Our Lady of Aranzazu led by Rev. Fr. Lawrence Paz, congratulates the people of Cainta, Rizal and their Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Nolly Buco, JCD. Viva la Virgen!
