You might be feeling sad, upset, depressed, lonely, worried, or weak; just read bible and you’ll feel comfort. Bibles are not just a display at the altar, but a life-changing instrument. It helps to strengthen our faith. While reading the bible, we can escape from the stress brought by the world to meditate and relax for a while.

 

For years, we are reading bible and there are some things we don’t know about bible. Here are the 10 facts about bible:

  1. The Bible (KJV) has 31,102 verses and 1189 chapters.

The shortest verse in the bible is in John 11:35: “Jesus wept”

The longest verse: Esther 8:9: “The king’s scribes were summoned at that time, in the third month, which is the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day. And an edict was written, according to all that Mordecai commanded concerning the Jews, to the satraps and the governors and the officials of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, 127 provinces, to each province in its own script and to each people in its own language, and also to the Jews in their script and their language.”

The longest chapter is Ps 119 while the shortest chapter: Ps 117 with just two verses. On the other hand, the shortest book is 3 John while the longest book is Psalms.

Maher-shalal-hash-baz is the longest word in bible and most used word is “the.”

 

  1. The largest producer of bible is China.

China is not only the largest producer of textiles and manufactured goods in the world; the country is also the largest producer of Bibles.

 

  1. The Bible is the best-selling book in history and the most commonly stolen book.

There are 5 billion copies are sold and over 100 million copies of bible are sold each year. The Bible is the most commonly stolen book in the world, most likely because it is available in hotel rooms and places of worship.

 

  1. The first, middle, and last words in the bible.

“In” is the first word in the bible. (Genesis 1:1) “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. The middle word is “the Lord.” (Psalm 118:9) “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.” And the last word in the bible is “Amen.” (Revelation 22:21) The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. AMEN.”

When you put the first, middle, and last words together, it will create a sentence, “In the Lord, Amen!”

 

  1. The word “bible” is from the Greek word ta biblia.

It means “the scrolls” or “the books.” The word is derived from the ancient city of Byblos, which was the official supplier of paper products to the ancient world.

 

  1. The Bible is not a single work.

It is a collection of works from a wide variety of authors, such as shepherds, kings, farmers, priests, poets, scribes, and fisherman. Authors also include traitors, embezzlers, adulterers, murders, and auditors.

 

  1. The time of the writing the bible was from 1500 BC to AD 100.

The Bible was written over a 1600-year period by approximately 40 men.

 

  1. Swearing on the bible is against the bible.

“Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.  And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black.   1. Nowhere in the bible does it say there were three wise men.

The names of the wise men were not mention in the bible and also it nowhere says that they were three. What the bible says is that there are three gifts brought by the wise men: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. (Matthew 2:21)

 

  1. The most expensive book in the world is the translation of Biblical psalms.

“The Bay Psalm Book” which was sold for over $14 million. It is the first book printed America and was the Puritan’s attempt to make their translation of the Old Testament book.
