SAN MATEO, Rizal – (UPDATED) The NSDA Parish Media Ministry recently announced the launch of the 1st Aranzazu Pocket Film Contest: a short-film competition for new filmmakers and storytellers, aimed to help aspiring talent make and screen a short film. The move is part of the Parish Pastoral Council’s week-long Feast Day celebration this September 2018.

Participant/s may form a group or stay as a solo storyteller. Submitted digital video should be: original, shot on any “pocket” digital devices, 2-3 minutes long, has English subtitles, and must be presented under one of the genres that may fit the working theme of the contest. See complete mechanics here.

Ms. Camille Cabal, team lead for the said competition commented: “This Aranzazu Short Film contest is another first of its kind. It plays an admirable role in highlighting and celebrating the medium of short film and seeking out new filmmaking talent. It’s a combination of doing Art of Film making without sophisticated machines, only “pocket” digital devices such as Mobile Phones, Digital SLR….marrying this discipline to showcase how are we devoted to our Lady, Mama Mary.”

“Opportunity awaits to all who will participate and who will win. We invited different personalities to gauge the submitted videos and looking forward to support more our needs to be Parish Media Ministers.” says Bro. Arnel Yango, coordinator of Parish Media & Public Information Ministry. “Pagsasama-samahin namin dito ang pagbahagi ng talento sa bawat isa ngunit idadaan ito sa pagpapakita o pagpapatunay kung gaano ang mga taga Rizal ay deboto kay Birheng Maria.”

The said contest will be judged on a number of criteria, including creativity, devotional, original storytelling and production values. The final jury, presided by Ms. Antoinette Jadoane, a Film and TV ‘hugot’ Director, famed for doing the blockbuster “That Thing Called Tadhana” , “Love You to the Stars and Back“, and high-rating TV shows: “Till I Met You“, and “On the Wings of Love“, will include UP Film Director Ms. Joey Singh, and two more popular personalities. The Jury Prize-winning films will premiere at an event this September 22, 2018, which the contest takes place from August 1 to September 13, 2018.

The winner/s will receive a cash, a certificate of participation, a chance to be trained by some of our media practitioners and an exclusive membership to the Parish Media Ministry. Submissions to the 2018 Aranzazu Pocket Film Contest can be made until September 3, 2018 here.
