The month of August may be considered as a historical month for the numerous historical events that have happened within this period of the year. Aside from being called as the “Buwan ng Wika,” we also commemorate the Heroes’ Day and Manuel L. Quezon’s birthday during this month.

Let us not forget the famous Kadayawan Festival in Davao during the 3rd month of August and Gigantes festival in Lucban, Quezon every 19th of the month and many more festivals and celebrations that we failed to mention.

The unveiling of Aranzazu Shrine’s Historical Marker is now one of the special events in the Philippine calendar that fall on the month of August after the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) officially unveiled it last Friday, August 31.

During the unveiling ceremony, NHCP President, Rene R. Escalante said that he was also invited to the birthday of Marcelo H. Del Pilar to be celebrated in Bulacan but he preferred to grace the parish event due to Rev. Fr. Bembol Hiteroza’s (Shrine Rector and Parish Priest, DSPNSDA) request.

Antipolo Bishop Most Rev. Francisco M. De Leon D.D. during the thanksgiving mass, called this month “makasaysayan” and mentioned that August 31 is also the birth of the late Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin. Former CBCP President, Archbishop Socrates Villegas was also consecrated on the same day of year 2001.

August is feared by many for it is also called as the ghost month but for the Catholic church, August is a blessed month just the same with any other month of the year.

Let us thank God for all the blessings that we have received and look forward to receiving more blessings as we begin the month of September, the month of Our Lady of Aranzazu.

Mark 11:24 – “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you received them, and you will have them.”
