With the celebration of the Ash Wednesday this week, the start of the Lenten season has become official. If you want to do fasting more seriously this year, here is our short guide for you, foodies out there.
Generally, you are to abstain from eating meat. This includes beef, pork, chicken, lamb, ham, deer, and other types of meat. Consuming fish for Lent is acceptable for some, but the general rule is to avoid having a feast and do abstinence during Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all Fridays of Lent.
We recommend consuming more vegetables and fruits at this time of the year, as well as lesser-known grains like bread and noodles. To keep up with the strict observance of fasting, we vote against taking sweets, pastries, desserts, and other luxurious food.
It is also advised to reduce your intake of food during this season, especially on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Instead of consuming three full meals a day, why not eat just two meals (breakfast and lunch) and sacrifice your dinnertime?
This year, Lent starts on March 6, 2019 (Ash Wednesday) until April 19, 2019 (Good Friday).
“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.”
Luke 4: 1-2
