It’s International Women’s Day today, March 8, 2019. Celebrating this occasion are millions of ladies all over the world who stood out and shined despite the struggles accompanied by what is often called as the “second sex.”

Here we present to you the five outstanding women of the Holy Bible, and how they’ve presented themselves as role models in today’s society.

1.  Mary

An important person in the life of our Savior, Mary conceived Jesus while still being a virgin. Thus she was known to many as the Virgin Mary. She was chosen to bear a big responsibility, and yet instead of running away Mary chose to accept everything out of her love for God.

Mary is considered as the most meritorious saint of the Catholic religion.

2. Ruth

The Book of Ruth in the Bible tells a wonderful story of Ruth, a woman married to an Israelite named Boaz. What we absolutely find inspiring about Ruth is her loyalty to her mother-in-law Naomi, whom she never left and even accompanied to Bethlehem.

“Where you go, I will go; where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die—there will I be buried.”
Ruth 1: 16-17

Truly, Ruth is an epitome of devotion.

3. Salome

The wife of Zebedee, Salome, is best remembered as the woman who came kneeling down in front of Jesus to ask for the Lord a request about her sons. This example shows a mother’s love for her children, and how every mother out there would want nothing but the best for their sons and daughters.

“What is it you want?” he asked.

She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.””
Matthew 20:21

4. Sarah

Never lose hope, and most importantly never lose faith — this is what Abraham’s wife, Sarah, taught us. Sarah didn’t have a child until she was 90 years old, and in today’s situations if one remains childless by that age it’s already impossible to conceive a child. However, God fulfilled his promise to the couple and Sarah gave birth to Isaac. Today, Sarah is known as “The Mother of Nations.”

5. Eve

Let’s all go back to our roots, which is Eve from the book of Genesis. Despite their infamous disobedience to God, Eve is still known as the mother of all life. This woman, among all women, was created hand-in-hand with men. The creation process of Eve remind us that men and women are equal in dignitt and in life in general.

Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”

-Genesis 2: 22-23
