“Think well. Speak well. Do well. These three things, through the mercy of God, will make a man go to heaven.”
What a day of surprises. I woke up with a checklist of things to accomplish and places to go. But I guess sometimes the best experiences are those that come unexpectedly.
At 7:55 AM, as I was checking my mail, I received a call from a dear friend to accompany him to this contest he needed to join. My instinct was to say yes immediately, even though noontime shows weren’t my thing. I just wanted to support my friend by being there for him, win or lose. But despite the odds, he ended up winning the thing! It was priceless witnessing such a beautiful moment, knowing also that the prize money will be used for a good cause.
After a nice lunch with our other friends and coffee at home with Mom, I headed over to another parish to attend Kumpisalang Bayan along with my parish priest and some friends. I don’t usually confess to priest friends because it could get awkward. But I saw one of my friends hearing confession and decided to line up for him as a prank, then just say hello and go. I got the greeters to let me queue for him because I said he was my SD. However, I guess I was the one who got “pranked” by God. As soon as I got seated, my friend, who also happens to be like a big brother said, “Kumusta?” and spoke with me in the context of prayer. I just began crying and opening up as I would during counseling. I was not ready for that. But I guess God knew that I needed it, especially as I didn’t see my kuya very often.
My day started with laughter, followed with tears, but will end with gratitude for all the blessings I experienced today. Today is once again a testament that even though we plan our lives so efficiently, God surprises us with beautiful moments that we could never have executed better ourselves. Henceforth, I pray to God for the humility to allow His Spirit to fill the gaps of my life through His grace.
May I truly mean it when I say the words, “Let go, and let God.”
