SAN MATEO, Rizal – Red Wednesday is a campaign that was started by the Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) on 2016, and is still being observed by Catholic Faith worldwide.
Red Wednesday campaign is to commemorate all Christians who were persecuted, discriminated, and harmed because of their unwavering faith. One example is the bombing at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral in Jolo last January 2019. Red Wednesday is observed worldwide every 27th of November. Red symbolizes the martyrdom of Christians. Everyone may wear red shirt to spread awareness about the said commemoration.
Based on an endorsement letter by Fr. Genaro Diwa, Executive Secretary Episcopal Commission on Liturgy Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines, a Holy Eucharist will be offered today to commemorate the said event.
Over 2,000 parishes are expected to take part in the said campaign. Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu (DSPNSDA) will also participate the campaign by celebrating a holy mass while parish exteriors are being lit by red lights.
We are called today to remember all the persecuted Christians and pray to stop the religious violence by wearing red shirt and attending the mass at 6:30 in the evening. #AidToTheChurchInNeed #ACNPhilippines #ACNWeRemember #RedWednesdayPH2019
