There is a boy on the beach who is building a sand castle, he was building it carefully, adding elaborate details into it. He built the sandc astle complete with walls and it is very beautiful. All of a sudden, the wave creeped on it and washed away the very beautiful sand castle that the boy built. Instead of being disappointed, the boy watched in awe as the water took away the grains of the sand because he knew that it would eventually happen. As the water became calm, he built another sand castle.
On the other hand, there is a man who was also building his career, he was spending a lot of time at work, working hard for his promotion. Due to stress at work, he suddenly felt something in his chest and collapsed on the floor. This man did not die but the doctor told him that he could have died if he wasn’t rushed to the hospital.
On his bed, he realized, “what was I doing?”
”I was building and building my career and I can’t build it anymore. I almost died!”
All of us are building our own sand castles in life but who are we between the two? Are we the boy who watched in awe as the sand castle was being taken away by the wave? Or the man who was so attached to the sand castle of his life that he didn’t know what to do next?
We’re all building sand castles but one day, the waves of time will crash everything. Are we ready to detach?
Like the man in the story, we were busy building our business, our social lives. We have already booked travels until the end of this year and COVID-19 happened. We are so attached that it crashed our lives and we’re left with no options but to stay at home because we are not used to this anymore. We are so attached to the sand castle of life that will one day disappear.
Are we ready to detach when God suddenly wants to take away the sand castle that we built?
Life is not about what you are building because God can take it away anytime because He wants us to do something better that is according to His will. Instead, be attached to God and his mission to your life.
As we continue to battle with the COVID-19, we realize that there are a lot of things that we can survive without. As we pray for the end of this crisis, if that time comes, what are the things that you are willing to detach from?
