Jubilee churches designated by bishops are scattered across the country, where more than 80 percent of the population are Catholics.
MARIKINA (Update) – Rev. Fr. Lopito “Bembol” Hiteroza, Aranzazu Parish Priest, announced that the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Nuestra Señora De Aranzazu is one of the chosen Jubileee Churches for the celebration of the 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines.
Aside from Shrine of Our Lady of Aranzazu, Our Lady of Light in Cainta, Our Lady of the Abandoned in Marikina, Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo, Santa Ursula Parish in Binangonan and San Idelfonso Parish in Tanay are also chosen parishes and shrines.
The Jubilee Churches will be the center of promotion and deepening of the celebration.
The Catholic Bishop’s Conferences of the Philippines (CBCP) enumerated some guidelines for the designated Jubilee Churches to follow such as installing a Jubilee Door, preparing a sacrament or reconciliation and penance for the pilgrims, organizing seminars, heading programs for the poor, the neglected, the sick, and more.
During the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Catholics can gain blessings and plenary indulgence by doing a pilgrimage in designated Jubilee churches. Last December 2020, Pope Francis also announced a Year of St. Joseph, in honor of the 150th anniversary of the saint’s proclamation as patron of the Universal Church.
The pilgrim must pass through the Jubilee door, do a confession , attend the mass, recite the creed and pray the intentions of the holy father to receive indulgence.
