Happy Birthday, Rev. Fr. Lopito Hiteroza

The most fundamental fact of life in our world is change. And as a rule, people are reluctant to change. We resist it. It has to do with staying in our comfort zone, which is part of human nature. Yet it is inevitable as Heraclitus once said, ” there is nothing permanent on this earth except change.” Thereis always a constant change whether we like it or not. President John Kennedy said, “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future.” There are things that we ourselves can manage to change but there are also other things beyond our control. But, it’s also true that what we resist, persists. And when we push against a change whose time has come – it resists big time. The Chinese people are saying that “if you don’t change your direction – you’re bound to end up where you are  headed.”

Next week by the 28th of January, there will be an inevitable change . I’ll becoming 59. Yet Google says Im not 59. I’m 18 with 41 years of experience. Actually , I am not afraid or shy in telling my age. I am just so thankful to the Lord God for the gift of life and love. Psalm 105: 1 says, “Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!” Likewise in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

One year after next week Jan. 28 I’ll be turning 60 and I will become a member of dual citizens group. Maybe many people will call me lolo especially upon learning that I will already my senior citizen card with the privilege of 20% discount for different items. Time flies, place remains (Tempus fugit, locus manet). Reaching this stage in life, I feel more  fragile. May mga bagay gusto pa ng isip at puso ko pero ang katawan ay mahina. The spirit is  willing but the body is weak.

Despite my age and my sicknesses, I’m still asking the Lord God for His grace that I can continue serving Him through the people especially those entrusted to me. The Gospel according to Matthew 6:26, “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?” becomes my inspiration.

Therefore, I’ll carry my mission and my ministry with full of gratitude. Again, President Kennedy said, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by  them.” Melody Beattie says, “Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
