Aranzazu Parish is set to welcome Rev. Fr. Rodrigo “Ric” Eguia on his arrival as the new parish priest on Monday, August 2, 2021.

Fr. Ric, who is already in his 29th year in the vocation, was the previous parish priest of Our Lady of The Most Holy Rosary Parish in Montalban, Rizal.

His first mass as the parish priest will be broadcasted live on the Aranzazu Shrine’s Facebook Page and Youtube Channel on Wednesday, August 4, 6:00 PM.

On his personal Facebook account, Fr. Ric shared the whole story on how he was called in the priesthood journey. He admitted that he always wanted to have a married life and family until he had not one but four dreams to make him act towards the calling.

Fr. Ric was 25 years old when he started having dreams about a man who seemed like a shepherd and was looking for more men to join him in the mission. Fr. Ric tried to ignore those dreams but it bothered him so much that he felt the need to ask for God’s direction.

God seemed to have answered Fr. Ric’s prayers when an acquaintance whom he hadn’t talked to for a long time called him and asked him to accompany him to a seminary.

The young Ric broke up with his then girlfriend and left his dream job as an engineer to follow God’s will even when his mother was against it in the beginning.

Interestingly enough, Fr. Ric’s mother revealed to him that he was a menopause baby and the people around her mother suggested not to continue conceiving him since it would be risky for her and for the baby.

Fr. Ric’s God-fearing mother decided to continue conceiving him and said that if she followed the suggestion to abort the baby, she could have aborted a priest.
