The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) has welcomed the postponement of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections that had been scheduled for October 23 this year.<\/p>\n

PPCRV chairman Rene Sarmiento said the postponement was a prudent decision, allowing all stakeholders to focus on other pressing matters.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is good the President finally signed the law to postpone the barangay elections,\u201d Sarmiento said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTime, effort, and expense can be channelled to other constructive nation-building concerns,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday signed a law moving the elections to May 2018.<\/p>\n

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) also welcomed the move despite already spending more than P600 million for the printing of the ballots and other preparation activities.<\/p>\n

Sarmiento said it\u2019s a sigh of relief for them and other people because they have long suffered from the uncertainty surrounding the fate of the elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe uncertainty among incumbent barangay officials, among possible candidates, among NGO electoral groups, and even within PPCRV will be put to a stop,\u201d he said.\u00a0CBCPNews<\/em><\/p>\n
