\u200bZAMBOANGA City \u2013 As part of the national \u200byouth day celebration, young people were recently challenged to give serious thought about the environment and its future, in an activity called NYD Run on Nov. 8.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we are suffering right now, is \u200b[it also] suffering that we are going to pass on to the next generation?\u201d asked Diane Sol, a pilgrim from the Diocese of Boac, sharing her insights after joining one of the NYD Runs on the third day of the youth event, \u201cAgila\u2019 Lipad na: A Laudato Si talk.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview, Sol\u200b also\u200b said that \u201cthis \u200b\u200bgenera\u200bt\u200bion has the biggest responsibility in preserving the environment\u200b\u201d because natural resources and ecology have to be preserved for the future generation\u200bs<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we will not take care of our environment then who will take care of it?\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Thousands of pilgrims joined NYD Runs in various immersion sites, learning more about different topics like peace, fitness, \u200bliturgy, relationships, economy, and politics.<\/p>\n

According to organizers, the said activity aims to help the youth understand prevailing socio-economic issues and realities in Philippine society.<\/p>\n

\u200bAs speaker in one the talks, \u200bformer\u200b Department of Energy and Natural Resources secretary Gina Lopez \u200bremind\u200bed the pilgrims\u200b about the power of dreams.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you think small, you\u2019ll dream small and you will be small. Are you small? No! Because God is inside of you, God is with you.\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Lopez then challenged the youth to make a stand for the environment while staying \u201crooted in love.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLove is the foundation of economic growth,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n

Some 2,052 delegates from all over the Philippines converged in this city for NYD 2017 from Nov. 6 to 10.\u00a0Angel Memorando\/CBCPNews<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
