Kadalasan ay ipinagdiriwang ito ng dalawang nag iibigan. Kaya\u2019t ipinag-utos niya na ipagbawal ang kasal sa Roma upang mapasakanya ang atensyon ng mga sundalo. Nagbalak si St. Valentine na lumaban tungkol dito. Nalaman ni Claudius ang plano ni St. Valentine at ipinag-utos na ikulong ito.<\/p>\n<p>Si St. Valentine ay inaresto at kinaladkad sa tagapangasiwa ng Roma. Dahil nalaman ni Claudius ang plano ni St. Valentine, inutos niya na hatulan siya na bugbugin hanggang sa mamatay at pugutin ang kanyang ulo sa araw ng Pebrero 14, 270 AD.<\/p>\n<p>Habang nasa kulungan si St. Valentine, nag-abot siya ng isang letra sa anak ng taga-bantay ng kulungan, nakalagay sa sulat ay ang pangungusap na \u201c<em>Mula sa iyong Valentine<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dahil sa kabayanihan at pananampalataya ni Valentine ay ginawa siyang Santo ni Pope Gelasius I noong 496 A.D. Kung kaya\u2019t noong 1969 ay tinanggal siya sa pangunahing kalendaryo ng Romano Katoliko.
