Aranzazu: Debosyon at Kasaysayan, is a “love letter to our parish”, as described by its playwright and director, Bro. Jerson Rey C. Guiwa.

Tanghalang Aranzazu (TA), the official theater organization of Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Nuestra Senora de Aranzazu (DSPNSDA) is about to present an “unconventional” production this December.

TA, which is celebrating their 12th anniversary as a parish organization was established in 2005 under Msgr. Mariano T. Balbago Jr. Since then, the organization is known for their quality and exceptional plays including secular-themed productions like Panunuluyan and Senakulo; and non-secular plays from existing Filipino one-act plays and original TA works.

This December, TA is preparing to awe its audience with another musical play that is fresh and new just like some of the plays that they have presented before.

The production which is written and will be directed by Bro. Jerson; is in line with the closing celebration of Aranzazu’s tercentennial anniversary as the patroness of San Mateo on December 9.

Aranzazu: Debosyon at Kasaysayan is about the origin of Our Lady of Aranzazu but Bro. Jerson stressed that this play will not be presented in a historical and chronological way that will bore the audience.

“Just like in my past works, the thrust of the play does not linger and limited to what is by the book and by the bible. It has an unconvential storytelling, its structure and its story,” Bro. Jerson said.

This is the first time that TA will do an environmental staging where the audience can be more involved with the emotions of life to be seen in the play. The playwright does not want to tell a History lesson, but aims to tap emotions, thus, human emotions.

Tanghalang Aranzazu satisfied your eyes with their performances for the past 12 years. Now they will bring you the remarkable play of the year.
