Appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Antipolo, Most Rev. Nolly Camingue Buco, JCD, DD was episcopally ordained along with the celebration of the Feast of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary yesterday, September 8.
Antipolo Bishop Francis De Leon was the principal consecrator while Manila’s Cardinal Tagle was the one who delivered the homily. Bishops, priests, nuns and the people witnessed the ordination of the first appointed auxiliary bishop from the said diocese.
During his homily, Cardinal Tagle said that it was a special day because the church is celebrating the birth of Mary and the ordination of Bishop Nolly. Cardinal Tagle stressed that “there is no dichotomy in the mystery of Christ and church in the life of Mary and every disciple and pastor.” He explained that no one can serve Christ without serving the church, the two are always unified.”
The Manila Archbishop encouraged everyone especially Bishop Nolly to have a deeper relationship with Jesus because it drives a disciple to serve his church. “It is only in the mystery of Christ that we create a fitting service to the body of Christ,” he said.
Talking about leadership, Cardinal Tagle also warned Bishop Nolly on how pride destroys a leader saying, “ang kayabangan ang sumisira sa mga tinatawag para maglingkod.” The Cardinal said that after being ordained as bishop, more people would wish to have a photo with him or will look for a connection to him and he should be careful with that.
As he was about to end his homily, Tagle called Bishop Nolly a “biyahero,” remembering that he was born in Davao Oriental and was assigned to serve in Rizal. He asked for everyone’s support for being elevated to episcopate is not Bishop Nolly’s personal journey.
Tagle ended his homily reminding Bishop Nolly that Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage will always be on his side in whatever journey that he is yet to take.
